The Global Non-Profit Expands Brings Back the Successful Social Innovation Hackathon for its 2nd Year

November 26, 2018

Girls in Tech, an organisation focused on the empowerment, entrepreneurship, engagement, and education of women in technology, is proud to announce that it is delivering the 2018 edition of its successful Hacking for Humanity hackathon on December 8-9, 2018 at the World Trade Center in Gibraltar.

The Hacking for Humanity hackathon is a call to all developers, designers, product marketers, engineers, entrepreneurs and businesses with an itch to change the world through solving real challenges that our charities, non-profits and community initiatives face.
The hackathon follows on from last year’s successful event where Childline, Animals in Need Shelter and Understanding GIbraltar all proposed topics as challenges and received innovative, practical and sometimes truly inspiring solutions from the participating teams.

“This event presents another wonderful opportunity for the multitude of talented professionals and hobbyists to come together and collaborate on designing and developing solutions to real problems faced by organisations in and around Gibraltar” says Peter Mares, Co-Managing Director of Girls in Tech Gibraltar. “We are working on hard on making this years event even more fun and engaging, while still raising awareness and tackling the challenges faced by charities and non-profits through innovation and creativity. We are incredibly thankful to all our sponsors for working closely with us in designing what we hope will be a memorable experience.”

This year’s hackathon has received tremendous support from both public and private sectors, with HM GoG Ministry of Equality, Rockolo, World Trade Center, Infinity Fitness Group and One Media & Events joining Girls in Tech’s annual sponsors Playtech, GIG, NetEnt, William Hill and Colorworks to provide the organisation with the resources it needs.

All Girls in Tech events are all-inclusive, meaning that both women and men are welcome to attend – this is especially important at events like this where solutions will naturally benefit from diverse perspectives and approaches.
